Chamber Academy: Dealing with Difficult Situations that Involve People
In this class, Steve Hinds from The UAA Center for Corporate and Professional Development will discuss the components of conversations with consequences, those that involve at least two sides of a discussion, where people are highly charged and where there will be consequences if things are not positively resolved.
You will also hear about the "amygdala hijack" and how that significantly affects the potential outcome of discussions. The workshop will cover the visceral reactions we typically have when we are involved in those difficult conversations, how to recognize when conversations get off track, how to stop and develop a safe environment where productive conversations can take place and then how to work together with other participants to achieve the results you both are seeking. This workshop will present you with skills that you can use on the job, in the community and at home.
The event is held from noon-1:00 PM. This hour includes time for presentation, Q&A and discussion at the end. Lunch is provided. Attendance is $10 for members and $20 for non-members.
