About Us
The Alaska Native Heritage Center (ANHC) was founded in 1987 by unanimous vote of the Alaska Federation of Natives and officially incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1989. Opening its doors on May 1, 1999, ANHC is the only statewide organization representing all 11 major Alaska Native cultural groups: Dene, Iñupiat, Sivuqam Yupigi, Yupiit, Cupiit, Unangax^, Sugpiat, dAXunhyuu, Lingít, Xaadas, Ts'msyen. Set on a 26-acre campus in Anchorage, ANHC offers visitors a living, immersive experience of Alaska Native culture through six life-sized traditional Village Sites, guided tours, dance performances, Alaska Native Games demonstrations, and exhibitions in the Hall of Cultures. Beyond its role as a cultural destination, ANHC provides statewide resources including workforce development, language revitalization, and community wellness programming. Recognized as one of America's Cultural Treasures by the Ford Foundation, ANHC has welcomed more than one million visitors since opening and continues to serve as a hub for cultural preservation, education, and healing for Alaska Native peoples and all Alaskans.
