Alaska’s early childcare and learning workforce currently employees 7,300 Alaskans, more than Alaska’s mining, building construction and air transportation sectors. Yet child care workers earn wages equivalent to some of the lowest-paying jobs in Alaska.
Commissioner Michael Hanley of the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development, Stephanie Berglund, CEO and executive director of thread Alaska, and Abbe Hensley of Best Beginnings will give an update on the early childcare sector in Alaska, how Anchorage businesses are impacted and what measures are being taken to ensure stability.
