ASYMCA Salute to the Military Call for Nominations

The Annual Salute to the Military got its start in the form of multiple Service Balls hosted by the local Navy League. In 1977, the Navy League, with the support of Senator Ted Stevens, worked with the Armed Services YMCA to create one annual event to honor all service branches, and promote community awareness of military performance and service. For 2021, the ASYMCA will continue the grand tradition of celebrating Service Before Self in a format both exclusive and accessible--a grand party using small gathering sites to come together as a community.

The ASYMCA invites you to become part of the process by helping us find a military spouse and a civic leader who both share their own commitment to Service Before Self.

The Bobby Alexander Civic Leader of the Year Award goes to an Alaskan resident who has demonstrated a strong commitment to the Armed Forces, and whose dedication to the support and betterment of our troops is born out through their grassroots efforts, advocacy, and accomplishments. You can nominate an individual who exemplifies these qualities by visiting our website here.

The Armed Services YMCA Alaska Spouse of the Year is an individual whose dedication to their service member's commitment to their oath of service, and to the military community, is as deep as their vows of matrimony. This individual is the spouse of an active duty service member or any rank, who has uplifted their service member, community, and fellow spouses through their personal, professional, or volunteer roles. You can nominate a military spouse by visiting our website here.
