Anchorage PrideFest Kicks Off June 22!
and education organization, announces that “Anchorage PrideFest Week: Breaking Boundaries” will be
held from June 22 to 29 throughout Anchorage.
Anchorage PrideFest Week will consist of more than 20 events throughout the week, celebrating and
unifying Alaska’s LGBT community, and its allies, through connectivity.
Businesses and organizations such as Williwaw, Bear Tooth Theatrepub, Anchorage Cycle, Mad Myrna’s,
Out North Gallery, Humpy’s, and The Raven, to name a few, have signed on to host many of the events
during the week.
“This year’s PrideFest theme pays tribute to the events that took place at the Stonewall Inn in New York 50 years ago.” said JJ Harrier, board member with Identity, Inc. “Stonewall is a pivotal moment in the modern LGBTQ movement and we will be hosting events that honor this. Anchorage PrideFest Week is an opportunity to step out, have fun, and rejoice in who we are and what we’ve accomplished as a community.”
Anchorage PrideFest Week will culminate on Saturday, June 29 with Identity’s Equality Parade at 11
a.m. on 7th Avenue. This festive parade will lead to the popular PrideFestival, held at noon at Delaney
This year, 170 vendors have signed up to showcase their products and services at PrideFestival, along
with more than 20 main stage acts on two stages. Lardi B, a body-positive national performer, and Thorgy Thor, season 8 contestant of RuPaul’s Drag Race, is scheduled to perform.
At the start of the PrideFestival, Anchorage Mayor Ethan Berkowitz will read this year’s proclamation recognizing Anchorage PrideFest Week, a long-standing tradition of the event.
More than 9,000 people are expected to attend PrideFestival.
