54th Annual Citywide Cleanup & Kick-Off Event

May 1 through May 28, 2022

ANCHORAGE - The Anchorage Chamber of Commerce is looking forward to the 54th annual Citywide Cleanup presented by Matson to be held May 1 through May 28, 2022. Every year thousands of volunteers throughout the Municipality of Anchorage unite to collect and dispose of millions of pounds of trash from Anchorage, Eagle River, and Girdwood neighborhoods. In 2021, we had over 6,500 registered volunteers collect 2.8 million pounds of trash. These numbers surpassed our goals for the year and were beyond what we were able to accomplish in 2019.

Groups can register at and arrange pickup for the number of orange garbage bags needed with the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce. Individuals are also invited to go to any local Fred Meyer customer service counter in Anchorage and Eagle River to pick up Citywide Cleanup bags (two per person).

The Municipality of Anchorage Department of Solid Waste Services (SWS) will hold sign-ups for their Free Summer Dump passes beginning May 1st. This is replacing “Free Dump Days” in previous years. The registration for these passes is separate from Citywide Cleanup registration but will be available on our website along with terms and conditions.

Our well-known, bright-orange Citywide Cleanup bags can be dropped off, free of charge, at the Anchorage Regional Landfill and the Central Transfer Station located at 1111 E 56th Ave., Anchorage Monday – Sunday, May 1 through May 28, 2022. Bags must be segregated from other trash and taken through the residential entrances. DO NOT LEAVE BAGS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.  PLEASE DISPOSE OF THEM YOURSELF.

"One of the most anticipated events in Anchorage is the annual Citywide Cleanup coordinated by the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce. This has been an exceptionally long winter and soon it will be time to pick up trash and shine up our city for residents and visitors,” says Bruce Bustamante, President & CEO. “Cleaning up our city is a monumental job and it will take many volunteers to complete the task. Please volunteer your time, coordinate a team or bring out your family and participate in this year's event."

The Citywide Cleanup kick-off event is May 1st from 11 AM-2 PM at Westchester Lagoon with the help of Anchorage’s dedicated trash haulers and our title sponsor Matson. Share your photos at for a chance to win over $5,000 in prizes including round trip railroad tickets courtesy of the Alaska Railroad.
