Tax Preparer I

Summary: Nonprofit seeking professional individual to join small team to assist with a unique tax program that has provided services for more than two decades to rural Alaskan communities.

Schedule: December – April

Hours: 30 – 40/week; Monday – Friday; some weekends

Training: Required and provided

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent phone answering skills and friendly customer service skills
  • Demonstrate proficiency in MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to meet and establish professional working relationships
  • Self-starter with excellent organization skills
  • Detail oriented, proactive individual who takes ownership of their work
  • Work well alone, in teams and amongst diverse populations
  • Reliable – good/punctual attendance is essential
  • Dependable, trustworthy and ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Correspond with clients
  • Answer incoming calls/greet clients
  • Prepare basic Form 1040 tax returns
  • Assist clients with documents and forms
  • Track result; maintain electronic and paper files
  • Assist program management
  • Assist with other program activities
  • Rural travel may be required
