Grant Accountant
Position Summary
The Grant Accountant will coordinate all grant related functions within the agency. The Grant Accountant coordinates the efforts of agency and Finance staff to ensure that all grant requests and reports are complete, accurate, and timely, will ensure that the agency is in compliance with all regulatory, reporting and special condition of grants. The position also monitors the ongoing service provision and expenditure levels for all grants and acts as a resource to the agency regarding all grant requirements.
Essential Functions
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of the Covenant House Mission, philosophy, history and tradition(s) and the underlying values upon which the Agency is founded to the staff, youth, and the community we serve.
• Understand and comply with all Agency policies and procedures.
• Maintain a high level of ethical standards.
• Reconcile grant expenditures to ensure proper coding and allowable expenses.
• Maintain grant files to be auditable at all times.
• Set up and monitor reporting and filing schedules for all grants.
• Produce grant financials and coordinate with agency staff to ensure timely filing of all grant reports.
• Track each grant spend down to enable the agency to be good stewards of all funds.
• Review grant and contract award documentation to establish accounting structure necessary for accurate and complete financial reporting.
• Coordinate financial accounting between the agency and granting entity to ensure all grant costs are correctly recorded and reported, in accordance with OMB circulars.
• Assists in the coordination of the agencies annual audit, periodic grant monitoring reviews and other internal and external reviews, as necessary.
• Work with accounting staff to maintain proper time allocations for employees and expenses coded to grants.
• Attend all seminars and trainings to meet skill and duty requirements including grant seminars, computer training courses and accounting courses.
• Upon agency agreement/contract execution, store, and track agreements/contracts to include outlining terms and responsible departments.
• Maintain positive working relationships with all agency components
• Other accounting and agency related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
Associate Degree in Business Administration or related field of study with emphasis in accounting, or similar. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or related field preferred.
Experience
3-5 years of professional accounting experience, education can be substituted for work experience, with a preference of two years’ experience with Federal and State of Alaska grants preferred. Demonstrated professional knowledge of accounting principles or has the ability to adapt and learn state and federal regulations in a timely manner. Not-for-profit accounting experience preferred.

• Proficient with standard computer operating systems;
• Excellent oral and written, communication skills including organizational skills and attention to detail;
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks;
• Willingness and ability to work outside of normal business hours, and Holidays and/or weekends as needed.
• Possess a current state of Alaska Driving License
• Have a clean driving record
• Pass federal, state, and local background investigation.
Working Conditions
• Position is established in an office setting within the Youth Engagement Center.
• Noise level is mild to moderate, consistent with office and residential environments.
• Must have the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
• Must have the ability to observe details within close range.
• Must be able to remain in stationary position for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to move within the office to access files and office equipment.
• Consistently operates a computer and related office machinery.
• Must be able to ascend/descend stairways in case of emergency to exit building safely.
