SUMMARY:"Make it Monday" forum - Business Development and Entrepreneurship in Rural Alaska
DESCRIPTION:Jon Bittner and Nolan Klouda will discuss trends in entrepreneurship across Alaska with a focus on rural business development and how that can impact businesses in urban centers. There will be a focus on new industries and opportunities as well as a discussion of some of the unique challenges to operating a business in the rural areas of the state.\n\n\n\nPLUS\, a member presentation from Alyssa London\, Senior Technical Account Executive\, Arctic IT. \n\n \n\n\nAs Executive Director\, Nolan Klouda provides overall leadership for the University of Alaska Center for Economic Development\, as well as support for other programs of the UAA Business Enterprise Institute. Prior to taking his current role in 2014\, Nolan served as Associate Director. He has been a strategic advisor to tribal governments\, municipal governments\, non-profits\, Alaska Native Corporations and private business groups\, assisting them in realizing their economic goals. Nolan's areas of professional interest include feasibility analysis\, rural economic development\, entrepreneurship and innovation policy\, and engagement between the public and private sectors. He is a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) through the International Economic Development Council\, is a board member for the University Economic Development Association\, and serves on the Municipality of Anchorage Budget Advisory Commission. Nolan was named to Alaska's "Top 40 Under 40" in 2015. He holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Kansas and a Bachelor of Arts\, History and Political Science from Gustavus Adolphus College.\n\n\n\n\n\nJon Bittner serves as the Executive Director of the Alaska Small Business Development Center\, overseeing 16 staff located in eight centers statewide. The Alaska SBDC provides business advising and training services to roughly 3\,000 small businesses and entrepreneurs in over 50 communities across the state. Previously\, Jon served as the Deputy Commissioner of the Alaska Dept. of Commerce\, Community and Economic Development and the Vice President of the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nNew to Monday Forum?
