Established by the Alaska State Legislature in 1967 and 1976\, respectively\, AIDEA fulfills its mission by making investments and offering financing tools to communities and businesses while AEA carries out its mission of reducing the cost of energy in Alaska by diversifying the state's energy portfolio\, engaging in energy planning and policy\, and investing in Alaska's energy infrastructure.\n\n \n\n\n\n\nAlan Weitzner is the executive director of the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA)\, the State of Alaska's economic development finance authority. He was appointed to this position in August 2020 after serving in the role of chief investment officer since 2018. \n\n\n\nPrior to joining AIDEA\, Weitzner's served in various leadership roles in project financing and financial management of global infrastructure projects. He has advised and structured over $16 billion in debt underwritings\, equity capitalizations\, and project developments for energy\, gas infrastructure\, and port facilities in the United States and internationally. Weitzner holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from the University of Texas at Austin.\n\n\n\nAs AIDEA's executive director\, he is focused on listening to Alaska's communities and businesses to understand their unique economic development needs. \n\n \n\n\n\n\nCurtis W. Thayer is the executive director of the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA)\, the State of Alaska's energy office and lead agency for statewide energy policy and program development.
