SUMMARY:Diversity Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM)\, and AWAIC (pronounced awake Abused Women's Aid in Crisis) is here to spark an important conversation.\n\nDomestic violence impacts families in every community. This engaging and interactive presentation creates a safe space to talk about the difficult reality of interpersonal violence and\, more importantly\, how we can all play a part in supporting survivors. \n\nWe'll share ways to truly listen\, provide nonjudgmental support\, and help with creating a safety plan for someone who may be experiencing abuse. \n\nAt the end\, there's time for questions\, discussion\, and storytelling\, plus we'll provide resources and life-saving materials you can take home. \n\nTogether\, we can raise awareness and bring hope to survivors. \n\n\n ABOUT THE PRESENTER:\n\n\n\nRandi Breager is the Executive Director of Abused Women's Aid in Crisis (AWAIC\, pronounced "Awake")\, leading efforts to provide emergency shelter and advocacy for survivors of domestic violence. Her career began at AWAIC as a practicum student and later included nearly a decade with the Alaska Department of Public Safety\, where she advanced survivor-centered policies and addressed the state's backlog of untested sexual assault kits. She also served as Senior Director of Programs at Covenant House Alaska\, supporting unhoused and at-risk youth.\n\nRandi holds dual B.A. degrees in Sociology and Psychology and an M.P.A. in Criminal Justice and Criminology. With nearly 20 years of experience\, she remains committed to building systems that uphold dignity\, safety\, and healing for survivors.\n\nMore on AWAIC: View Business Profile\n\n\n\nThe diversity committee's mission is to better serve and advocate for the business community by becoming a more open\, inclusive\, and diverse organization reflective of the make-up of Anchorage. To accomplish this we envision a board that reflects the demographics of our city and a growing membership of businesses representing the diversity of our business owners and entrepreneurs.\n\n\n\nAll members and non-members are welcome to attend and share ideas to advance our diversity mission. If you'd like to present at a future meeting\, please email diversity@anchoragechamber.org.
