SUMMARY:Diversity Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Help celebrate the vibrant spirit of Diversity Awareness Month!\n\n \n\n\nThis June's Diversity Committee Meeting is designed to spark connection\, collaboration\, and community impact. This powerful gathering will bring together the voices of Juneteenth Anchorage and Anchorage Pride as they share exciting details on upcoming citywide celebrations\, cultural events\, advocacy efforts\, and opportunities to honor freedom\, equality\, and inclusion across Anchorage. \n\n \n\nFrom the rich legacy\, resilience\, and empowerment of Juneteenth to the bold celebration\, visibility\, and advocacy of Pride\, this meeting will serve as a dynamic exchange of ideas focused on uplifting diverse communities\, fostering meaningful partnerships\, and exploring how local businesses and leaders can champion equity and support year-round.\n\n \n\nJoin us as we celebrate culture\, community\, liberation\, and love while helping shape a stronger\, more inclusive Alaska for all. \n\n \nMEET OUR PRESENTING ORGANIZATIONS\n\n\n\nJUNETEENTH ANCHORAGE\n\n\n\n\nJuneteenth Anchorage celebrates June 19th as a powerful citywide observance honoring the end of chattel slavery in the United States in 1865 and uplifting Black culture and contributions in Alaska. In Anchorage\, the observance has grown into a multi-day community celebration centered at the Delaney Park Strip\, featuring education\, local Black artists\, vendors\, and cultural programming that highlight both history and progress. Anchorage formally recognized Juneteenth as a municipal holiday in 2023\, following its designation as a federal holiday in 2021. The city first raised the Juneteenth flag at City Hall in 2021\, marking a visible commitment to acknowledgment and celebration. Led by community partners like Juneteenth Anchorage and the Alaska Black Caucus\, the event has evolved from local gatherings into a vibrant tradition often referred to as a "second Independence Day" for reflection\, education\, and unity. \n\n\n\nLEARN MORE\n\n\n\nANCHORAGE PRIDE \n\n\n\nAlaskans Together Foundation (ATF) works to advance education\, advocacy\, and equal rights for Alaska's LGBTQ+ community and hosts the annual Anchorage Pride Parade in downtown Anchorage with nearly 50 participating groups and more than 1\,000 spectators. \n\nLocal Alaskan event coordinating company Huycke Entertainment and the Alaskan AIDS Assistance Association (Four A's)\, a local organization dedicated to supporting people living with HIV/AIDS\, have partnered to host this year's Anchorage Pride Festival at Delaney Park Strip. \n\nThese events and many more make up the Anchorage Pride umbrella happening citywide this June.\n\n\n\n\n\n LEARN MORE\n\n\n\n\nThe diversity committee's mission is to better serve and advocate for the business community by becoming a more open\, inclusive\, and diverse organization reflective of the make-up of Anchorage. To accomplish this we envision a board that reflects the demographics of our city and a growing membership of businesses representing the diversity of our business owners and entrepreneurs.\n\n\nAll members and non-members are welcome to attend and share ideas to advance our diversity mission. If you'd like to present at a future meeting\, please email diversity@anchoragechamber.org.
