Food Program Outreach Specialist

University Anchorage Kiwanis Club
Job Description

The Food Bank of Alaska is seeking a full-time Food Program Outreach Assistant for the Anchorage and Mat-Su areas. This position will primarily focus on SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as Food Stamps), which is a powerful tool in the fight against hunger and has the potential to support more families than all other feeding programs combined. However, one in four Alaskans who could qualify do not actually claim their benefits. This position is a great opportunity to connect Alaskans in need with food assistance. You will be actively engaged in the community to provide education about SNAP at food pantries, grocery stores, health clinics and fairs. You will assist the SNAP Outreach Manager in program development, including an outreach volunteer program, and collect stories of clients’ experiences with SNAP. Additionally, this position will provide SNAP pre-screening consultation and application assistance. Data entry and using the SNAP Outreach online database is required as well. The grant funding for this position is guaranteed through June 2018 and additional funding is being pursued.

The ideal candidate will have outstanding interpersonal skills; have the ability to travel locally; be able to work independently and proactively in a range of settings, including working some evenings and weekends; handle confidential and sensitive client information; have multicultural awareness and be able to interact in a positive manner with diverse populations; and have a commitment to Food Bank of Alaska’s mission to end hunger. The candidate must have excellent organizational, teamwork, computer and detail skills. Two (2) years professional work in a related field and/or bachelor’s degree a plus.

This full-time position, 40 hours per week, is located at Food Bank of Alaska, and reports to the SNAP Outreach Manager. The pay is $17-$18/hr. We provide a great atmosphere of teamwork and camaraderie. We offer medical, dental, vision and life insurance; holiday, vacation and employee sick leave, a 403(b) plan, and professional training opportunities. Send resume and cover letter to: Food Bank of Alaska, 2121 Spar Avenue, Anchorage, 99501, fax 277-7368, email jobs@foodbankofalaska.org. Food Bank of Alaska is an equal opportunity employer.
